Introducing: Box Office Poison
Sunday, July 25, 2010 at 2:16PM Ahoy there, folks.
So I'm really proud to present the latest addition to the Crosstawk.com family of podcasts: Box Office Poison. Each month, the crew and I will talk about what we've been seeing lately and then transition into a Movie of the Month, where one of us will pick a classic (or not-so-classic) gem for the whole group to watch.
So who's on the show? Besides myself, we've got Mike Sklens (Rough Draught, formerly of Radio Free Nintendo), Jonathan Metts (Radio Free Nintendo), Evan Burchfield (formerly of Radio Free Nintendo) and Stan Ferguson (formerly of Radio Free Nintendo, God's Favorite Podcast). As for the Movie of the Month, it was Evan's pick, so we all took the time to watch North by Northwest, directed by the one-and-only Alfred Hitchcock.
Aside from NXNW, you can also look forward to some Inception talk, The Red Shoes, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane and many others.
Dig in, everyone, and see you next month!

why do you guys only offer your podcast in m4a?
you know ogg vorbis is a free format...
We release the show in m4a since it allows us to give the show advanced features like chapter selection and multiple pieces of artwork.
Our hosting plan is a little tight, also, so uploading the show again as an mp3/ogg/etc just wouldn't be cost-effective. Hopefully one day we can release the show in multiple formats - I'd like it to be as convenient as possible for everyone while still retaining the advanced features available with m4a.
I can see where you're coming from, I have heard some good things about m4a & I watched an m4a once before on VLC & it was pretty neat. really I'm just complaining because my music player doesn't do m4a, so I just use an audio converter & choose to convert the show into ogg.
I've been listening to RFN since the first shows were offered up back in the PlanetGameCube days (that's actually the reason I told myself that I needed to get a portable media player! wow haven't remembered that in a long time...). I decided to try out BoxOfficePoison because I heard a trailer on RFN. I don't like spoilers so I do skip some parts, & the parts I don't skip can get really strange but I have to say it's definitely nice hearing some old voices again :-)
Yeah, it's a shame that a lot of portable media players don't play well with m4a, and once we upgrade our hosting, offering an mp3 version will be the first priority. Maybe I can offer mp3 downloads off of MegaUpload or Mediafire in the mean time.
